Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
