US Forces Targeted a 'Major Facility' in the Venezuelan nation, Trump Asserted Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Trump has stated that US military assets struck a "large installation" in Venezuela last week. Yet, the former president did not specify the precise nature or site of the strike, and there has been no further clarification from his camp.

Vague Comments Made During a Radio Interview

"US forces just knocked out – I'm not sure if you saw – they have a large facility, where the vessels come from. Recently, we took it out. So we targeted them decisively," Trump allegedly informed GOP supporter and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Verified Attack

If a US strike is verified, it would represent the initial ground target hit since the US Department of Defense initiated a buildup of American strike forces in the region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration asserts operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original mission of the force deployment has since morphed into a blockade aimed at hindering the country's oil exports.

Online Footage and Official Claims

Trump has for weeks indicated that US forces are ready to expand the military campaign by striking targets within Venezuela, a tactic that would theoretically require congressional approval.

Video footage circulated on social media on 24 December seemed to depict an blast said to be from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. However, the video or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team reportedly informed a news network that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Situation

The Venezuelan government has remained silent on the event Trump described. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela about it.

The deployment of American forces in the region – a position some have called a sea blockade – represents the largest naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Administration officials have avoided from labeling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that approximately 15,000 service members are deployed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to uphold current economic sanctions.
